Wet rooms

Wet rooms Glasgow, tanked properly the first time.

Our team carries out wet room installation in Glasgow from substrate to final grout line, tanking the room ourselves so the water goes where it should and nowhere else.

The honest version

A wet room is a fully waterproofed bathroom or shower room with a level access shower area, no tray and no enclosure. It looks calm and minimal, but it lives or dies on what is underneath the tiles.

Cutting corners on tanking is the single biggest reason wet rooms fail. We treat the waterproof membrane as the most important part of the job, not an afterthought, and the same team that forms the falls lays the tile over them.

Why choose Glasgow Bathroom Fitters

The difference our own team makes.

Waterproofing done in house

Tanking is our own work, not something subcontracted out and hidden under someone else's tile.

Full system, not patched together

Tanking membrane, primer, joint tape and tile adhesive used as a matched system, applied to the manufacturer's spec.

Correct falls to the drain

The floor is built up so water actively flows toward the drain. No puddles, no standing water.

Water tested before tiling

We water test the room before any tile goes down, and check it again at handover.

What is typically involved

A clear picture of the work, before it starts.

Every project is different, but a well run job tends to follow the same calm rhythm. Here is what to expect from our team.

  1. 01

    Survey the substrate

Floor and wall construction is checked. Timber floors usually need overboarding, concrete needs priming.

  2. 02

    Form the floor falls

A pre-formed tray former or sand and cement screed is built up so the floor slopes evenly to the drain.

  3. 03

    Tank the wet zone

Walls and floor in the shower area, plus any splash zones, are sealed with a liquid or sheet tanking system.

  4. 04

    Tile, grout and finish

Tiles laid over the cured membrane, grouted with the right product for wet use, then silicone movement joints.

Your options

Built around what suits your home.

Not sure which is right for you? Mention what you are thinking on the quote form, our fitters will talk it through honestly.

Full wet room

Whole bathroom is the wet zone, no shower enclosure at all. Best in larger or well ventilated spaces.

Wet zone with screen

Level access shower with a single fixed glass panel, the rest of the room kept drier. A popular middle ground.

Wet floor en suite

Compact en suite turned into a fully tanked space. Smart in small rooms where a tray would dominate.

Loft or attic wet room

Sloped ceilings and timber floors, with extra attention to membrane detail around eaves.

Underfloor heating

Electric mat under the tile, ideal for drying floors quickly and keeping the room comfortable.

Concealed drainage

Linear channel drains tucked against the wall, for a cleaner, almost invisible finish.

Common questions

Anything else on your mind?

If your question is not here, add it to the quote form and our fitters will answer it before we visit.

Not if it is tanked correctly. A properly installed wet room with a full waterproof membrane, correct floor falls and the right grout and silicone is a sealed system. Failures almost always trace back to skipped or rushed tanking, which is why we do that stage ourselves and water test it.

Yes. We overboard timber floors with the correct backer board, build in the falls and bond the tanking system to a stable, prepared substrate. It is more work than a ground floor concrete slab, but very achievable. In a tenement or flat we also check the shared soil stack and give neighbours notice before noisy work.

No. Many homeowners prefer a wet zone with a single glass screen, keeping the rest of the floor drier. We talk through both at the free design visit and recommend what suits your space and your ventilation.
